JUST KIDDING!
But it’s true. East Yorkshire is a brilliant place to go visit with the kids! And TOTALLY underrated in our humble opinion.
We were lucky enough to be invited by Visit East Yorkshire to go and sample just what East Yorkshire has to offer for an awesome family staycation and I’ll tell you, it was an action-packed epic visit!
And we’re going to tell you ALLLLLLLL about it!
(Hopefully in a way that’s engaging and interesting. And not in a way that reminds you of sitting watching your Great Aunt’s holiday photos…..)

North Landing beach, part of the heritage coastline of East Yorkshire.
East Yorkshire Coast
We’ll start with the glorious East Yorkshire Seaside!
Because East Yorkshire really has it all! At the northernmost part you will find the glorious heritage coastline of Flamborough Head boasting rocky bays brimming with rockpools, sea caves, craggy coves and sandy beaches.
Head further south and you’ll find more stunning sandy beaches with a traditional seaside vibe!
Here are some of the places we visited on our trip…
Bempton Cliffs
Flamborough is also home to the RSPB nature reserve, Bempton Cliffs. It’s the home of over 200,000 birds. And yes, you are correct in thinking, that’s a REYT lot of birds!
With a vast array of species, including puffins amongst a whole host of other ornithological delights (I’m not going to pretend to be a bird expert, but they are fascinating to observe, for SURE) the reserve is an awesome sight to behold. From May to the beginning of August, you are highly likely to be able to spot the cute little superstars, the puffins, before they move onto their new homes, and the RSPB are good for a seasonal trail too! So make sure to check it out!
It’s for sure part of the East Yorkshire bucket list!

Hornsea
Fancy more of a traditional seaside vibe? Check out Hornsea beach which has blue flag award winning status and is the home to a new promenade! Here, you will find some of the best fossil hunting spots, golden sandy beaches and a splash pool. Expect arcades, fish and chips, buckets and spades and the scent of fresh hot doughnuts, which in my opinion, is one of the finest smells in the world!
The beach is ace for a sea swim, and has RNLI lifeguards stationed there too in the designated area.
If you do fancy a cheeky beachside fish and chips, check out Whiteheads which is a just a little trip inland, but worth the journey for SURE! Check out where to find them on the Whiteheads website!

North Landing Beach
We love North Landing Beach!
Located in the Flamborough area of East Yorkshire, North Landing Beach is a little sandy bay, surrounded by rock pools and epic sea caves!
There is a beach side kiosk, serving takeaway hot and cold drinks (and alcoholic drinks if you fancy a G&T) hot and cold light lunches and snacks, as well as any beach stuff you might have forgotten too! There is a basic toilet at the car park where you’ll find a cafe and ice cream van too.
Access is down a very steep track down to the bay, but that is because the bay is surrounded by craggy cliffs, packed with sea birds. Which is obviously awesome!
Top tip, remember to pack your water shoes as the rocks are super slippery! In our opinion, North Landing Beach is awesome, but we think there are better beaches to swim from, so if you’re after wave jumping and sea swimming, head to Hornsea.

Where to park for the beaches?
And all the other logistical bits and bobs!
Ah I know that this is dull, but it’s always my first research point when we’re exploring somewhere new!
So, for the beaches and coastline we paid a visit to during our stay…
Bempton Cliffs:
Free car park What 3 Words: protected.tribes.daytime.
You do not have to pay to enter Bempton Cliffs, as there are public footpaths that run through it. However, the money will contribute to the upkeep and the protection of the area and the wonderful birds who call it home.
There are toilets and a cafe at the RSBP centre there.
North Landing Bay:
Pay and Display Car park: What 3 Words: bulletins.evaporate.human
The car park is large, with plenty of spaces. So far, we have never seen it full. Be aware that the machine only accepts cash (there is no app or card option).
Hornsea:
Pay and Display and on Street: outlawing.loudness.cape is where we parked. It’s large and a less than a 5 minute easy walk to the beach and splash pool.
There are several more pay and display car parks dotted along the sea front. We found parking to be very easy, as we visited at high tide. It is worth noting that even at near high tide, there was still beach available to play on.
There are toilets at the Leisure facilities and a little further on at the splash pool. There are also many places to grab drinks and coffee and of course ICE CREAM! We visited the little kiosk next to the splash pool and it was ace!

Great places to visit with the kids in East Yorkshire
There are loads of great places to visit with the Kids in East Yorkshire, here are some that we experienced during our stay!
William’s Den
Before our trip, I had heard SO MUCH about William’s Den, and we thought it was great!
Located in North Cave near Beverley, William’s Den is a play experience like no other! It seamlessly links both outdoor and indoor play areas, all with an outdoor theme.
Indoors, you will find a climbing tree, areal walkways, slides, water and sand play (so bring spare clothes, as it will get wet) stuff to hang on, stuff to swing on…. it’s great. The kids loved it.
Outdoors, you will find swings, slides, a sand play area, mud play areas, den building, woodland trails, obstacle courses and more!
There is a pizzeria and café where you can grab some tasty lunch, as well as an ice cream parlour serving an array of flavours, so many you will not be able to choose!

William’s Den in a nutshell
Location: Castle Farm, North Cave near Beverley
Opening Times: 10am – 5pm throughout July and August. Check the website for out of season hours.
Facilities: Toilets and Baby Change, Café and Pizzeria, Snack bars, Coffee, Ice Cream all available on site.
What food is available? Fabulous freshly made pizza and light lunches, snacks, cakes, hot and cold drinks. There are facilities to warm up bottles or baby food.
Can I bring a picnic to William’s Den? Yes! And there are picnic spots available.

Top Tip: Bring a change of clothes as there will be mud, sand and water!
Car Park: There is a large car park on site, with plenty of space.
Cost (these are for tickets booked in advance, on the day is higher): Child £14.95, Ages 1-3 £12.95, Babies are free. Adult £10.95, Concession £9.95
How long an experience lasts: We happily spent nearly four hours there, and would have stayed for longer had we not had to move on to another engagement, so set aside the full day!

Sledmere House
Sledmere House is located north of Driffield, on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.
It’s a Grade I listed period property, surrounded by stunning gardens, a deer park and is home to a rare breed conservation farm too, which is great fun to visit with the kids.
Amongst the rare breed animals are the Sledmere Horses and you are free to wander around and learn about the history of these famous stables. And of course, meet the stars themselves!
There is a kid friendly trail sheet to complete whilst you head around the farm park, plenty of facts about the animals themselves and an adventure play area too.
Sledmere also has a trail for the kids to complete around the stunning walled garden, which is great because the kids will probably not appreciate the array of beautiful flowers as much as you will!

Sledmere House in a nutshell
Location: Near Driffield, East Yorkshire
Opening Times: 10am – 5pm. The house is subject to seasonal opening days, so outside of the summer holidays is closed on a Monday. Check the website to be sure. During the Summer holidays, it is open all week.
Facilities: Toilets and baby change. The majority of the estate is accessible for visitors with disabilities and is pushchair friendly too.
Café? There is a café on site which serves tasty freshly made light bites, snacks and has a good selection of kid friendly food too. We ate there and thoroughly rate it! There is also a farm shop, deli and ice cream too.
Can I take a picnic? Yes.
Upcoming Events: Currently there is the Maize Maze and Summer Games which ends on the 4th September. Next up, the Spooky Barn Adventure, then Musical Fireworks and a Magical Santa Experience. Find out more on the Sledmere House website!
Car Park: There is a large car park on site.
Cost: Adult £11 Child £5.75 Family Ticket of 2 Adults and 2 Children £29. (Cost increases if you wish to view the house). Prices as of Summer 2022.
How long does it last? Well we reckon you could happily spend a full day out here!

East Yorkshire Walks and Trails!
As part of our Visit East Yorkshire Experience we headed out on a wander from the pretty Market town of Market Weighton to Goodmanham.
It’s an amazing geocaching trail that takes in part of the Wolds Way, one of the National Trails. This was a fab little loop, rammed full of geocaches that takes you past St Helen’s Well (the picture above is the tree there!) There was loads to keep the kids occupied whilst we were out for the wander, Geocaches are great for that!
It was a couple of hours long (about 4 miles) and offered some fabulous views across the Yorkshire Wolds.
Parking for the walk was at Market Weighton, where there is some free car parking. What 3 Words: outsmart.probe.mocked.

One of the puffins from the Puffins Galore trail
Puffins Galore!
The Puffins Galore Trail is taking place across the whole of the East Yorkshire Coast until November 2022! You can find 42 beautifully designed Puffins standing over a metre high, from Bempton Cliffs in Flamborough all the way down to Hull.
It’s a collectors dream to bag all of these bad boys!

This fab trail is aiming to raise awareness about endangered coastal and marine life and global warming. It also conveys the stories, legends and celebrates the people of the East Yorkshire Coast.
Kingfisher Glamping in Brandesburton East Yorkshire
Where to stay?
We stayed at Kingfisher Lakes Glamping! And it was absolutely great!!
We have written up a full blog about Kingfisher Glamping that you can find here, but in a nutshell, Kingfisher Glamping was an incredible site with lodges, Glamping tents, and Safari Tents. It has two Lakes, one which is for kayaking!
It’s a brilliant hub from which you can explore the best of East Yorkshire
Whilst you stay, why not try Bert’s Pizzeria? It’s located in Brandesburton, and is family friendly in spades!
