Who loves a family walk on Mother’s Day?
I do, I do, I do! The picture above was taken on Mother’s Day 2022, when the sun was shining and it felt like Spring was well and truly underway!
Finger’s crossed for some fabulous sunny Yorkshire Dales weather this year too! Because if you’re planning a Mothers Day walk in or around the Yorkshire Dales, then HI! I can definitely help you out with that one!
Each of the walks below cater for lots of different Mothers Day needs, whether it be a whole generational family wander, or a simple Sunday stroll. You’ll find easy walks, accessible walks, pushchair friendly walks, more challenging walks, walks with cafes, or walks to the pub for a Sunday roast!

Short Easy Mother’s Day Walks
Sometimes Mother’s Day can be packed full of family visits and Sunday roasts (sounds pretty ideal to me!) But there isn’t much time to squeeze in a Mother’s Day walk!
But that’s ok! We have some great short walk ideas in around the whole of the Yorkshire Dales!
If you’re over in the Harrogate area, then why not try our walk to Fishponds Wood near Pateley Bridge. At around 2 miles, the walk starts and ends in Pateley Bridge and features a walk around the pond itself where you’ll find ducks to feed, and the recently restored Ice House. This woodland walk is an ace way to spend a couple of hours and will give you stunning views across Nidderdale and it starts and ends the play park too!
If you’re planning a trip into Wensleydale, why not try out a top little waterfall wander? Our West Burton waterfalls walk takes you in a little circular wander and starts and ends in the village of West Burton which is the home of the spectacular Cauldron Falls and West Burton waterfalls. At under 2 miles, there is very little ascent, and the walk also features a little play area too!
Why not try a wander from Grassington to Linton Falls and stepping stones? This one takes you to the famous waterfalls and then in a circular walk to the stepping stones and back. It also features a park too and you’ll have the stunning town of Grassington to check out too!

Mothers Day Walks that feature Cafes
I mean…. for me a walk that features the chance to grab a brew half way round? Well that’s MY kinda walk!
These walks all feature a Cafe either at the start, end or right in the middle! And not just any cafes… ones that we’ve tried, tested and LOVE!
Let’s start with one of our FAVS! New Brook Street Deli is located on the road bridge in Ilkley and is amaaaazing. They serve pastries, cakes, amazing coffee, brekkies and light bites. So if you want to kick off Mother’s Day in style, then check them out! Our Middleton Woods walk starts and ends just outside the cafe, so you know what to do! Check out this fab Ilkley based walk!
The Old School Tearoom in Hebden near Grassington is an absolute belter of a Cafe! It serves hot drinks, cakes, light bites, epic hot chocolate and more! If you check out our Hebden Waterfalls walk, you can start and end at the cafe!
Ever fancied taking a wander around the ruins of a lime kiln followed by checking out some absolutely mammoth modern art? Then check out our Coldstones Cut and Toft Gate Lime Kiln walk! There is a fab cafe just down the road from the lime kiln, the Toft Gate Barn Cafe!

Pram Friendly and Wheelchair Accessible Mother’s Day Walks
All of these walks are accessible for pushchairs and also are accessible for those with limited mobility too!
The Yorkshire Dales works hard to improve the accessibility of it’s beautiful places through miles without stiles and so there are many beautifully accessible parts of the dales through the Access the Dales scheme. Check out Access the Dales for more information about mobility scooter hire.
One of the most accessible parts of the Yorkshire Dales is Malham, with the ability to borrow a scooter from The Lister Arms Pub in the centre. Both Gordale Scar and Malham Cove are accessible by both pushchair and wheelchair (not manual) as well as parts of Malham Tarn (parking prepare.ruins.reconnect) and are quite frankly stunning places to visit. A warning, they will be busy, but that’s because of their beauty!
Cotter Force near Hawes in Wensleydale is also part of the miles without stiles campaign. With wide access gates and surfaced paths, it is a super accessible waterfall with plenty of stopping points along the way for very young explorers or for those who need a frequent break.
The path from the Red Lion Pub to Loup Scar in Burnsall is also a Miles without Stiles walk and is well surfaced with minimal gradient. The bonus here is that it starts and ends at one of our absolute favourite Yorkshire Dales pub, so pushchair friendly, accessible and a top Mother’s Day Roast anybody?!

Mother’s Day walks with PUBS!
Ok, hands up who LOVES a Sunday roast on Mother’s Day?!
These walks all feature pubs! Again, all of them have been tried and tested by us in respect of the family friendly yum factor (such a tough job) and all of them got a resounding thumbs up!
Why not head up onto Ilkley Moor and check out the Cow and Calf Pub? Our Beck Stone walk is a top little amble and takes you past some of the best parts of Ilkley Moor! Top it off with a super family friendly Mother’s Day tea at the Cow and Calf pub and hooray! Mother’s Day sorted!
Keld is found just a short drive from the country’s highest pub, The Tan Hill Inn! We have a fab waterfall walk around Keld before you could drive up to the Tan Hill Inn! With any luck, you might get snowed in there…. I’ll be honest, with such friendly staff, there are worst places to be snowed in!
Head to Hawes and find the White Hart Inn! We’ve had some ace lunches there, and our Asygill Force waterfall walk starts and ends there!
Ok, I can’t leave out the Red Lion at Burnsall OR The Craven Arms at Appletreewick! These are two of our fav Yorkshire Dales pubs! You can head to BOTH pubs whilst doing our Burnsall to Appletreewick walk!
