Couldn’t be any different from February half term last year, could it?! (*shivers from the memory…)
And in stark contrast to last year, there are LOADS of outdoor events and trails taking place! (Can I hear a woooo hoooo!)
So here is our roundup of adventurous days out, in the great outdoors in and around the Yorkshire Dales!
Stockeld Park: February Half Term Fun
Date: 19-27 February
Booking required.
Price: £16 Forest Maze and Skate, £12 Forest and Maze, £11 Skate Only. Saving Farmer Foster’s Panto can be added onto the tickets at a cost of £3/ person (under 2s are free).
Taking place between the 19-27 February, Stockeld Park is holding Talking Animal week in their enchanted forest! Watch as magical statues come to life, take part in the interactive Family quiz or go and see Saving Farmer Foster’s panto! The ice rink is also back after Christmas, and can also be booked as a stand alone ticket.

Stump Cross Caverns
Date: 22 February
Time: 4pm

Price: £20/ child, £6/ adult
Why not head to Stump Cross Caverns to their amazing cave cinema to watch Frozen, followed by a mini-disco and themed games! Included in the ticket is a kids food box and prize. Singing along is of course encouraged!
Harlow Carr
Date: 19-27 February 2022
No booking required
Time: 10-4pm daily
Cost: Free for RHS members | Adults: £13.50 inc gift aid, (£12.15 without) | Children 5-16 years £6.75 inc gift aid (£6.10 without). A discounted rate of £9.40 and £4.75 is available if you travel on foot, cycle or bus
Unearth the hidden world ‘under your feet’ at RHS Harlow Carr this February half term! Harlow Carr are holding a family friendly garden trail, with forest school and planting workshops! We love Harlow Carr, it’s a brilliant day out, with cafes and play areas. Definitely worth a look!
They are also hosting a series of activities, including test tube planting, forest school outdoor workshops, garden detective adventure walks, wormery workshops and more!

Fun on the Farm: Lambing Season

Both Hesketh Farm and Birchfield Ice Cream Farm are open during half term. Thornton Hall Farm remains closed for the foreseeable due to exciting renovations to their indoor play area (Quadrex is still running). The final details of the events are yet to be released, but both Hesketh and Birchfield regularly update their Facebook page.

Fountains Abbey Welly Wander
Date: 15 February 2022 - 23 February 2022
Time: 10 - 4pm

Price: Free for National Trust members. Adult: £18.70 (with gift aid) Child: £9.40 (with gift aid) Family (£46.80) 1 adult 2 children (£28.10)
Fountains Abbey have set up an interactive sensory trail around the abbey and water garden, so don those wellies and go explore the stunning 800 year old abbey ruins and beyond!

Keelham Farm Shop

Price: £10/ child (age limit is 4 and over) - tickets to be bought in advance.
The amazing Rhythm Camp Events (I can personally say amazing, because this lovely lady did Edie an amazing Greatest Showman party pre-pandemic) is putting on some creative and fun pop up workshops at Keelham Farm Shop. Its an Eco Inspired week of crafting sessions with loads of fun activities to do including seed planting, and clay painting.

The Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival
Date: 18 February - 6 March 2022

Between the 18 February and 6 March, The Yorkshire Dales (along with the North York Moors) are hosting the annual Dark Skies Festival, which is a celebration of all things interstellar! This event was set up in 2016 and helps to raise awareness about the far-reaching impact of light pollution.
Did you know that the Yorkshire Dales has been designated as an official Dark Sky Reserve? And you can find loads of kid friendly activities taking place to get those heads looking upwards, and those fingers busy with all kinds of starry activities. Check out the Dark Skies Festival website for the full details of events, including crafty fun at The Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes, or the Planet Trail at Aysgarth Falls, or maybe a bike ride and pizza planet party! Yes.. of course there is too much to fit in a tiny roundup, so watch this space for our full Dark Skies Blog coming soon!

East Riddlesden Hall - Percy the Park Keeper’s Winter Trail
Dates: Saturdays and Sundays during February and throughout half term 11-3pm.
Booking is not required.
Cost: Free for National Trust Members £5 Adult | £2.50 Child | £12.50 Family | Family with 1 adult and 3 children £7.50
Give nature a helping hand this winter with the Percy the Park Keeper’s Trail at East Riddlesden Hall. East Riddlesden Hall is located in Riddlesden, just outside Keighley, West Yorkshire and has gardens, mud kitchens and a play area to explore. A great way to spent a morning or an afternoon!

It’s not just all about the events oh no! With a lot of destinations closed during the winter months, here’s a quick round up of where WILL be open during half term, but with no specific events planned….
⭐ Bolton Abbey
⭐ Thorp Perrow Arboretum
⭐ Castle Howard, winter gardens and Skelf Island (the castle is closed for annual cleaning)
⭐ Harewood House and Gardens is open all throughout half term (it is currently only open at weekends)
Closed until its warmer!
And here’s a list of places that will be closed until the warmer weather arrives!
⭐ Forbidden Corner is closed until the 1 April 2022
⭐ Thornton Hall Farm is closed until March for renovations to its indoor play area.
⭐ Mother Shipton’s Cave is closed until weekends in March.
⭐ Studfold Adventure Trail is closed until 9th April 2022 (but bookings are already being taken)
⭐ Castle Bolton near Leyburn is closed until 26th March 2022
